On May 6-7, 2026, the Defence24 Days 2026 conference, one of the most important events in Central and Eastern Europe devoted to security, defense, and state resilience, took place in Warsaw.

Dr. Karol Łyziński from the Department of Disaster and Emergency Medicine at the Jagiellonian University Medical College participated in the event, participating in the expert panel “Battlefield Medicine – Challenges of Contemporary Conflicts.”

The discussion focused on the organization and delivery of medical care in modern military operations, where survival is determined by time, safety, evacuation, and logistics. Topics discussed included standards of tactical care for the wounded, experiences from the armed conflict in Ukraine, cooperation between military and civilian personnel, and the possibility of adapting battlefield solutions to the healthcare system during crisis situations and mass casualty incidents.

Dr. Łyziński participated in the event. Karol Łyziński’s participation in the conference is consistent with the Department’s research, teaching, and expert activities in the areas of disaster medicine, healthcare system preparedness, and the preparation of medical entities to respond to mass casualty incidents, CBRNE threats, and crisis situations.

Recent experiences were particularly significant in the discussion, demonstrating the need for systemic healthcare preparedness to operate in conditions of delayed evacuation, threats to medical infrastructure, disrupted supply chains, and civil-military cooperation.
