On May 25-26, 2026, the 2nd National Civil Defense Congress and Forum, “Secure Poland and Citizens. A New Civil Defense System in Poland,” took place at the ICE Congress Center in Krakow. The event focused on building a modern system of population protection and civil defense, with particular emphasis on the role of local governments, public administration, services, the healthcare sector, critical infrastructure, and the expert community.

Representatives of the Department of Disaster Medicine and Emergency Care at the Jagiellonian University Medical College participated in the Congress. The event’s topics were directly related to the Department’s areas of expertise, including preparing the healthcare system for crisis situations, mass casualty incidents, CBRNE threats, civil-military cooperation, and the functioning of healthcare facilities under system overload.

The Congress program also included issues related to health security, medical staffing in crisis and war situations, healthcare system logistics, continuity of medical infrastructure, and Ukraine’s experience with the functioning of the healthcare system during wartime.

Representatives of the Jagiellonian University Medical College faculty also delivered presentations during the event, emphasizing the importance of the academic and medical communities in building the country’s resilience and preparing the healthcare system for contemporary threats.

The participation of the Jagiellonian University Medical College’s Association in the Congress provided an opportunity to exchange experiences with representatives of public administration, local governments, services, the healthcare sector, and institutions responsible for national security.
